Our verdict

Good for anonymous sign-up over streaming

IVPN suits Australians who put privacy ahead of streaming: no email to sign up, cash accepted and open-source apps. Top10VPN's June 2026 tests found little speed loss, but BBC iPlayer, Disney+ and Prime Video were blocked. The catch for Australians is a network with servers in Sydney only, billed in US dollars.

From US$5.00 (about A$7.12) a month

Standard 1 year plan, US$60.00 upfront. Renews at US$60.00 every year. Lowest plan of each VPN we track: A$1.58 to A$17.79.

Price and plan details read from www.ivpn.net.

Our three picks

Each pick is chosen for one strength, shown on its card with our evidence. For the full order by our tests, see each VPN's score and how we score.

What stood out

IVPN is a small Gibraltar company run by the same team since 2009. Its website spends as much time telling you when you do not need a VPN as when you do.

It says Cure53 has checked it each year since 2019 and that the reports are public. So you can read what the auditors found instead of taking IVPN’s word for it.

For Australians the deciding trade-off is geography. Its status page lists two gateways, both in Sydney. From Perth, your traffic crosses the country to Sydney before it goes anywhere else, which adds delay to video calls and online games. Our NordVPN review has October 2026 results from Melbourne.

Pros

  • No email needed to sign up (IVPN)
  • Pay in cash or Monero (IVPN)
  • Open-source apps, audited by Cure53 yearly (IVPN)
  • Little speed loss nearby (Top10VPN)
  • Renews at the price you first paid

Cons

  • Australian servers in Sydney only (IVPN)
  • Netflix patchy; iPlayer, Disney+, Prime blocked (Top10VPN)
  • Billed in US dollars
  • Small network of about 40 countries
  • No smart TV app listed

Not yet tested by us. The speed and streaming points are Top10VPN’s, from June 2026.

What other IVPN reviews found

Top10VPN’s June 2026 review measured a 5% speed loss on nearby servers and 14% on international ones. You would rarely notice either while browsing or on a video call.

The connection Australians care about suffered most. Top10VPN recorded a 22% drop to Australia, which fits a network with a single Australian city.

Streaming was the weak spot. Top10VPN got American Netflix to work but suspected a fluke, given IVPN’s history, and could not reach BBC iPlayer, Disney+ or Prime Video at all.

IVPN does not claim otherwise, which is refreshing, but it makes this the wrong VPN for overseas libraries. Top10VPN tests from outside Australia, so use its figures to compare providers, not to forecast your NBN line.

IVPN price in Australia

IVPN charges in US dollars, and the price you start on is the price you renew at. The table shows the Standard plan, read from IVPN’s pricing page. The Australian-dollar figure is a conversion, and your bank may add a foreign transaction fee.

PlanTermPer monthPaid upfrontRenews at
Standard 1 year1 yearUS$5.00 (about A$7.12)US$60.00US$60.00 / year
Standard 1 month1 monthUS$6.00 (about A$8.54)US$6.00US$6.00 / month

Checked 2 Nov 2026 Price and plan details read from www.ivpn.net.

The Standard plan covers five devices. IVPN’s pricing page, read on 13 October 2026, also listed a one-week option and dearer tiers. We do not track those yet, so check IVPN’s site before you buy one.

Here is what the Standard plan adds up to over three years.

First paymentUS$60.00covers the first 1 year
Each renewalUS$60.00every year
Three years in totalUS$180.002 renewals after the first term
Three-year averageUS$5.00 a monthagainst the advertised US$5.00 a month

Price after renewalUS$5.00/mo
Three-year averageUS$5.00/mo

IVPN charges in USD. At the current reference rate the first payment is about A$85.42.

Of the 19 VPNs we price, 14 have a lower advertised monthly price than IVPN.

Calculated from the Standard 1 year plan as published on 2 Nov 2026. Prices and renewal terms can change.

Is IVPN safe? Privacy and audits

IVPN’s privacy case rests on collecting almost nothing about you. These are its own claims; we have not verified them.

  • No personal details. You get an account number instead of a login, and IVPN does not ask for an email address.
  • Anonymous payment. Cash, Monero, Bitcoin and Lightning sit alongside cards and PayPal.
  • Audits. IVPN says Cure53 has audited it every year since 2019, including a no-logs audit in 2019, and it publishes the reports.
  • Transparency report. IVPN says it has never handed over customer data in response to a legal request, and it publishes how many requests it receives each year.

IVPN Limited is registered in Gibraltar and has been run by the same people since 2009. A long record under one team counts for something in a market full of takeovers.

IVPN apps, devices and Australian servers

IVPN says every one of its apps is open source, so outsiders can read the code. One Standard account covers 5 devices, enough for one person but tight for a household.

Its server status page lists two Australian gateways, both in Sydney, out of about 90 in roughly 40 countries. IVPN says it runs every gateway on hardware it controls.

WireGuard, a fast modern protocol, is the default. IVPN also lists OpenVPN and IPSec. The extras:

  • Kill switch blocks your traffic if the VPN drops, so nothing leaves unprotected.
  • Multi-hop sends you through two servers in different places, at some cost to speed.
  • Obfuscation disguises VPN traffic on networks that block VPNs, such as some hotel and office Wi-Fi.
  • AntiTracker, by IVPN’s description, blocks ads and trackers before they load.

Using IVPN in Australia

  • Australian servers: see IVPN's server list for current Australian locations.
  • Billing: charged in USD, so the Australian-dollar cost moves with the exchange rate.
  • Refund period: 30 days.

Australian law requires internet providers to keep customers' metadata for two years. A VPN encrypts the connection between your device and the VPN server, so your internet provider can see that you are using a VPN but not which sites you visit. It does not make you anonymous to the VPN provider itself, which is why the provider's logging policy and audits matter.
