Mozilla VPN
Number 14 of 16 in our calculated orderBestVPN score: not scored, because we have not tested Mozilla VPN yet. How we score
Our verdict
Good for simple privacy, billed in AUD
Mozilla VPN suits Australians who want a simple privacy VPN for public Wi-Fi, billed in Australian dollars and running on Mullvad's servers. Top10VPN's April 2026 tests found little speed loss, but Netflix, BBC iPlayer and Prime Video were blocked. The catch is a small device limit and a sign-up tied to your email address.
From A$7.50 a month
Annual plan, A$89.99 upfront. Renews at A$89.99 every year. Lowest plan of each VPN we track: A$1.58 to A$17.79.
Price and plan details read from www.mozilla.org.

What stood out
Think of Mozilla VPN as Mullvad in a friendlier jacket. Mozilla, the people who make Firefox, builds the apps and takes the money, and Mullvad runs the servers underneath.
Since the servers are shared, the real choice is between the two front doors. Mozilla charges in Australian dollars and gives refunds within 30 days if you buy from its website. Mullvad bills in euros and allows 14 days, but asks for no email.
Pick Mozilla for the easier sign-up, Mullvad if anonymity comes first.
Pros
- Priced in Australian dollars
- Runs on Mullvad’s server network
- Little speed loss nearby (Top10VPN)
- Simple apps with little to configure
- Apps audited by Cure53 twice (Mozilla)
Cons
- Netflix, iPlayer and Prime Video blocked (Top10VPN)
- Five devices per account
- Sign-up needs an email address
- A smaller network than the big names
- No smart TV or router app listed
Not yet tested by us. The speed and streaming points come from Top10VPN’s April 2026 review.
Tested alternatives to Mozilla VPN
If you want our own results behind your choice, these two fit what Mozilla’s buyers look for: privacy first, and a money-back window to try it.
Proton VPN is the privacy pick. It is based in Switzerland and says Securitum has audited its no-logs policy. In our October 2026 tests my home IP address never appeared when I switched servers, with the kill switch off or on.
It also played the three services Top10VPN found blocked on Mozilla: Netflix and Prime Video in Los Angeles and London, and BBC iPlayer in London. On its Melbourne server it kept 99% of our download speed (October 2026).
The catch is the currency. Proton charges in US dollars, so what your card pays moves with the exchange rate. It covers 10 devices at once, against Mozilla’s 5. Tested on an account Proton VPN gave us free of charge (17–21 Oct 2026).
Surfshark suits a household. It has no device limit and bills in Australian dollars, as Mozilla does. On its Melbourne server it kept 94% of our download speed (October 2026).
ABC iview, SBS On Demand and 9Now played there in October 2026, but Prime Video refused on every Surfshark server we tried.
One result matters for a privacy buyer. On its default settings, Surfshark showed my real Melbourne address for a few seconds when I switched from Tokyo to London, in both of our October 2026 tests.
Its kill switch is off out of the box. With it turned on, my home address never appeared when I switched servers on 25 October 2026. Tested on an account Surfshark gave us free of charge (16–25 Oct 2026).
Mullvad is the same network bought direct. Going to Mullvad changes how you sign up and pay, not where your traffic goes. We have no commercial link with Mullvad, so there is no button here: our Mullvad review covers what it costs.
What other Mozilla VPN reviews found
Top10VPN’s April 2026 review recorded a 3% speed loss on nearby servers and 12% internationally. On those numbers you would struggle to tell the VPN was on while browsing or streaming.
In one test, the phone mattered more than the server. Security.org’s September 2026 review measured almost no loss on an iPhone and a large drop on an Android phone. If you are on Android, check it on your own phone while Mozilla’s refund window is open.
Streaming is where it falls down. Top10VPN found Netflix, BBC iPlayer and Prime Video all blocked, and torrent downloads ran at about half speed.
These reviewers test from outside Australia, so use their figures to compare providers, not to forecast your NBN line.
Mozilla VPN price in Australia
Mozilla VPN charges in Australian dollars, so the price below is what your card is charged. You choose monthly or annual; the table is read from Mozilla’s pricing page.
| Plan | Term | Per month | Paid upfront | Renews at |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Annual | 1 year | A$7.50 | A$89.99 | A$89.99 / year |
| Monthly | 1 month | A$14.99 | A$14.99 | A$14.99 / month |
Checked 2 Nov 2026 Price and plan details read from www.mozilla.org.
Here is what each plan adds up to over three years.
| First payment | A$89.99 | covers the first 1 year |
|---|---|---|
| Each renewal | A$89.99 | every year |
| Three years in total | A$269.97 | 2 renewals after the first term |
| Three-year average | A$7.50 a month | against the advertised A$7.50 a month |
Of the 19 VPNs we price, 15 have a lower advertised monthly price than Mozilla VPN.
Calculated from the Annual plan as published on 2 Nov 2026. Prices and renewal terms can change.
Is Mozilla VPN safe? Privacy and audits
Mozilla says it does not log your network activity. We have not verified that, but Mozilla has let outsiders look at its code: it says Cure53 audited its apps in 2021 and again in 2023, and it published the findings.
The trade-off is your email address. You need a Mozilla account to subscribe, so your VPN is tied to an email. Mullvad sells the same servers with an account number and no email, which suits you better if anonymity matters more than convenience.
Mozilla VPN apps, devices and Australian servers
One Mozilla VPN account covers 5 devices, enough for one person with a phone, laptop and tablet but tight for a family.
For Australian locations, Mozilla points to Mullvad’s server list, which names Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. We will confirm which of them appear in Mozilla’s app when we test it.
Mozilla counts more than 500 servers in over 30 countries. Our Mullvad review quotes Mullvad’s own list at 50 countries. The two companies count separately, so take Mozilla’s figure as the one for its app.
Mozilla VPN uses WireGuard only, a fast modern protocol. Mozilla describes two extras:
- Kill switch, always on, blocks your traffic if the VPN drops.
- Multi-hop routes you through two servers in different places, at some cost to speed.
That short list is deliberate. This is a VPN for people who want to press one button, not tune settings.
Using Mozilla VPN in Australia
- Australian servers: see Mozilla VPN's server list for current Australian locations.
- Billing: priced in Australian dollars.
- Refund period: 30 days.
Australian law requires internet providers to keep customers' metadata for two years. A VPN encrypts the connection between your device and the VPN server, so your internet provider can see that you are using a VPN but not which sites you visit. It does not make you anonymous to the VPN provider itself, which is why the provider's logging policy and audits matter.
Alternatives to Mozilla VPN
Mozilla still makes sense if you want Australian-dollar billing on Mullvad’s network and rarely stream from overseas. Change if you need more than 5 devices, want the big streaming services, or want a VPN with our own results behind it.
